STATEMENT OF SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT 2025
We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint, fostering social equity, and supporting the well-being of our staff and guests. As we work toward achieving the Travelife certification, we pledge to uphold the highest standards of environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
- Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
We are dedicated to minimizing our greenhouse gas emissions by implementing energy-efficient practices throughout our properties.
One of our goals for 2025 regarding the single-use plastic, is to stop using individually plastic wrapped towels, to switch to a more sustainable alternative for the bathroom amenities, all showers/toilets/sinks (including the exterior ones) will be equipped with water filters to better control the water volume used by guests. All complimentary breakfast items will be sustainably sourced (ex. switch to tetrapack packaging milk, no individually plastic wrapped foods, paper tea bags, fair trade brands only).
- Protecting and Supporting Biodiversity
Calma Villas is situated within the rich natural landscape of Crete, and we are committed to preserving its biodiversity. Our gardens and landscapes feature only native, drought-resistant plants, which enhance local biodiversity and minimize water usage.
For our next year’s commitment, we intend to build around the property bird houses and bird feeders, as well as planting more local herbs for our guests to use. Furthermore we will improve the backwash process of the pools, by adding a water deposit for the pool water to drain into.
- Fair Treatment of Staff
We value our staff as the backbone of our business and strive to foster a respectful, inclusive, and fair workplace. We provide equitable wages, offer ongoing training opportunities, and maintain a safe and supportive environment. Our policies ensure that all staff members are treated with respect, have equal opportunities for advancement, and are recognized for their contributions.
- Protecting and Respecting Human Rights
Human rights are fundamental to our operations. We are committed to protecting the rights of our staff, guests, and community members. We have implemented strict anti-discrimination policies and uphold the right to fair treatment for all individuals associated with our properties.
- Community Responsibility
As a member of the local community, Calma Villas is committed to responsible engagement and meaningful contributions. We source materials and services locally, thereby supporting Crete’s economy and reducing our environmental footprint. We will continue to promote the local culture and attractions by writing and publishing more articles on our website and social media. We are also looking into finding other local ONGs to support, primarily from Sissi village, as we are committed to give back to the community that makes our guests return year after year.
- Safeguarding Children
We are committed to safeguarding children within our sphere of influence. Our policies prohibit child labor and ensure that all operations align with child protection standards. We also collaborate with local organizations to raise awareness about child protection in the tourism sector and take every possible measure to provide a safe environment for families staying at our villas. We are currently working closely with a local children’s organization and we intend to raise our support for 2025.
